Radiation Markers/TattoosDuring your radiotherapy planning session, your radiographer (sometimes called a radiotherapist) might make between 1 to 5 permanent pin point tattoo marks on your skin.
Your radiographer uses the tattoos to line up the radiotherapy machine for each treatment. This makes sure that they treat exactly the same area each time. Once you have completed treatment you may look at these markers as survival scars or they may be a painful reminder of the tough times that you would rather forget. |
Before Treatment |
Whether or not you should remove tattoos after completing radiation therapy varies based upon your diagnosis and health. It is very important to first consult with your oncologist or GP prior to having your tattoo removed.
If they agree to laser therapy we will need a letter from them stating that you are fit and healthy enough to start treatment. We appreciate obtaining a letter may be troublesome but it is a compulsory requirement before we can begin. You will then be invited to come along for a consultation so we can have a chat about your treatment options. |
Treatment & Cost |
Sessions are every 6 weeks or longer if you prefer and the number of treatments required varies from person to person although these types of tattoos are usually quite easy to remove and require only a few sessions.
The cost per treatment will be ZERO! This service is completely complimentary and no charge will be incurred. You've been through enough right? |
